Charles Léonard worked as a lieutenant in the Belgian Congo in 1953. He is the author of 'L'autre histoire de Congo'. He stayed in Congo in the years after Congo's independence. His wife, Ariane Léonard, taught anatomy at the Kinshasa Academy of Fine Arts.
